Cleveland SSP

Cleveland  School  Sport  Partnership (CSSP)  brings  together 30 schools and colleges to develop Physical Education (PE) and school sport opportunities for young people. Together we are committed to increasing levels of participation before, during and after the school day.

There is considerable evidence to demonstrate that sport can help raise levels of attainment and achievement across the curriculum, and locally we have been using sport as a tool to improve school standards.

Locally, in 2009 71% of young people participated in at least three hours of PE and school sport which was 21% above the National average. The three hour figure is the benchmark figure for schools. This placed CSSP in the top seven out of 450 School sport partnerships nationally. The 2010 figures state that CSSP has

78% of young people achieving the 3 hour plus mark which puts us in the top 4 SSPs nationally!


Very well done to all supportive schools and Head Teachers - especially Primary Link Teachers (PLTs); School  Sport Co-ordinators (SSCos); Further Education  Sport Co-ordinator (FESCo); our Competition Manager; Secondary PE departments; Young Sports Leaders and Officials; School Sport Coaches and Adults Supporting Learning (ASLs) - an outstanding achievement!


Working with NGBs, PCT and our partners in community sport, we are now focused on getting even more young people involved in PE, Physical activity and school sport.


The SSPs aim is to increase more high quality opportunities for participation, performance and leadership for all 5- 19 year olds regardless of ability. It whole heartedly believes that PE, school sport and physical activity develop people in the most positive of ways; it is not just for there for the elite or skilful but there is something active for every taste and ability.


CSSP has  78% (overall) of its young people involved in 3 hours or more of school based activity! This breaks down to:
